MIS 2 - Assignment 1

Personal success is really nothing more than a strong moral compass, simple common sense and lots and lots of hard work.

During our MIS 1, we were asked to develop a job description for a job we would like to hold in the future. And I have chosen of becoming a Database Administrator who is a person responsible for the environmental aspects of a database. The role of a database administrator has changed according to the technology of database management systems (DBMSs) as well as the needs of the owners of the databases. For example, although logical and physical database designs are traditionally the duties of a database analyst or database designer, a DBA may be tasked to perform those duties.

Because of the size of the information technology sector, one of the choices many people make when transitioning to an IT career is to select one that will utilize their previous experience.

A graphics artist that wants to build a business designing web pages must be literate in HTML, naturally, and must know how to work with Java and some of the other products designed for web publishing. You can obtain those sorts of skills from certification courses and online education programs.

The same is true of the office worker that wants to become an in-house networking expert. You can learn the basics of networking through online programs, but in the process you should also get certified in Microsoft’s products, especially Windows and Windows NT.

A marketer that wants to learn how to become an SEO expert needs to learn how the search engines work and what the ever-changing protocols are at Google, Yahoo and MSN. Beyond that, it’s important to understand web design and its effect on the search process. Your primary skill will be as copywriter, but you’ll need to develop an understanding of databases and must be able to track clients’ results on their sites.

If you’re interested in heavy lifting and want to become a systems manager or network design specialist, you’ll need to go to school. If you have no experience, a bachelors’ degree in computer science; MIS or in networking is going to be necessary. If you’ve been managing data for a while, polish your resume with training in some of the popular CRM products – go to Oracle or SAS school. These certification classes often are no more than six weeks in length and with the right employer, will hit the bulls eye.

Information technology is hot with many career paths including artificial intelligence, robotics, interactive media and web design, network management, programming, and computer forensics. You can increase your marketability by earning IT certifications offered through Microsoft in database administration, systems engineering, applications development.

10 years from now, I would become the most awarded database administrator in the world. I would be the one to create the largest, most prominent system which could help improve everything and anything in space, our lives and specially our environment. I would become the greatest inventor that I would merge IT with astronomy. And to be able to get there, I should have strategies that I would follow and here are some of those:

1. Possess Courage

It takes guts to put your reputation on-the-line and to invest your savings into new endeavors. Having that kind of dream is really hard to achieve but with courage and a firm belief in your abilities, everything would be possible. As what Master Oogway said in the movie Kung Fu Panda, “nothing is impossible”.

My father is a fisherman and I can see, we, his family, can see the courage, the guts to go to a wide ocean, specifically, Pacific Ocean, just to catch fish for us to be able to live, for him to be able to provide our needs, and for him to be able to send us to college. And I am very proud of him .not just today but tomorrow and forever. I salute him that he made me believe that “nothing is impossible”.

2. Get Real-World Experience

Of course, having a bachelor’s degree in IT would be not enough for me to become what I want 10 years from now. I should get real world experiences. As of now, as a 3rd year IT student, I have just experienced a little bit in designing databases during some of my subjects. And I expect that I would experience a lot more as I go to the level-up stage of my course.

3. Be Creative

We should always foster our creativity by exploring new uses for technology. We should think more, be creative in other words. Some people, particularly the experts would object someone who would want to do something new just because they think that something that has never been done, must be impossible. But as what I have written on the first strategy, “nothing is impossible”.

4. Be Obsessive

We should let nothing to stop us once we were locked-in to a particular task. As what Don Burleson said, “The only thing to be ashamed of is not giving 100% to every task you undertake”.

5. Have a real work ethic

Providing value to your work and to your clients would show that you have a strong work ethic. As what Ma’am Teng had said during our first meeting in SAD1, “you should not ask an expensive charge for the project you made for your client just because that client is not expert regarding your field of work”. We should really ask a credit that is just enough for us to make our work done.

6. Have Personal Integrity

We have to have personal integrity. It is a steadfast adherence to a strict moral or ethical code. Whatever you believe is right, the do it, whatever it takes to have. I grew-up poor but my parents have never borrowed money from other people just to provide our needs. My parents believe that if someone would do something, it’s going to get done. And with that kind of integrity they have, they made us proud that we are now in the place where we should not be.

7. Prayer

The last but not the least. We all know that in everything we make, there is God that is guiding us. We need to pray for Him to help us if challenges would come our way when reaching the top. He would always be there, always.

So that’s all. Maybe someday if I could think more strategies, I would write it here. Like this old saying, “there’s always room at the top”. So, follow your personal standards. You can expect what would happen in the future but it would be better if you will follow those expectations.
